Lucknow: Students of Isabella Thoburn College, along with NCC cadets of the 19 UP Girls Battalion and NSS volunteers, enthusiastically celebrated International Yoga Day under the leadership of College President Dr. E.S. Charles and Principal Dr. (Major) Neerja Masih. The event was organized around this year’s global theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlighting the vital role of yoga in promoting holistic health, mobility, and mental well-being among senior citizens.
The programme commenced with an address by Principal Dr. (Major) Neerja Masih, who emphasized the significance of yoga in maintaining a healthy and balanced life. She underscored yoga’s ability to enhance physical fitness, mental resilience, and emotional well-being, making it an essential practice for people of all age groups.
The event was jointly organized by the college’s NCC unit, NSS wing, and Department of Physical Education, reflecting the institution’s commitment to community welfare, discipline, and holistic development. The active participation of students demonstrated their dedication to promoting health awareness and social responsibility.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Associate NCC Officer (ANO) Major Prof. Barish E. James and Ms. Preeti Kerketta, Head of the Department of Physical Education. Significant support was also provided by Dr. Sneha Singh, NSS Programme Officer, and Ms. Sarita Khalko, whose efforts contributed to the successful execution of the event.

Gathering at the college sports ground, students enthusiastically performed eight fundamental yoga postures, including Tadasana, Vajrasana, and Bhujangasana. The session focused on demonstrating how these simple yet effective yoga practices can help individuals adopt a healthier lifestyle and maintain long-term physical and mental wellness.
Following the yoga exercises, participants took part in a meditation session designed to foster inner peace, concentration, and emotional balance. The combination of yoga and meditation reinforced the event’s message of achieving harmony between the mind and body.
The highly successful and collaborative programme concluded with a collective wellness pledge, in which participants committed themselves to adopting healthy habits and spreading awareness about the benefits of yoga within their communities. After the rendition of the National Anthem, students departed feeling energized, refreshed, and inspired to carry forward the message of wellness, discipline, and national service.
The celebration effectively highlighted the interconnectedness of mind, body, and nation, while reaffirming the transformative role of yoga in building healthier individuals and stronger communities.
